Goal reports Marcus Rashford is very unlikely to return to Manchester United after Ruben Amorim's sacking, with the decision to loan him to Barcelona said to have been made by the club hierarchy rather than the Portuguese head coach.

Rashford joined Barcelona on loan in the summer and has scored seven goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions, though his form has plateaued recently with just one assist in his last six La Liga outings. He has said he would like to stay at Barcelona, declaring: "What I want is to stay at Barca. It's the ultimate goal," and that he feels welcomed and is focused on winning trophies. Amorim previously criticised Rashford's training standards, saying he would prefer to play United's then-63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital than a player "that don't give the maximum every day," while Hansi Flick has praised Rashford's attitude and mindset.

The Sun has reported the forward is unlikely to return to England in the January transfer window. Barcelona face Athletic Club in the Spanish Super Cup this week, then Real Sociedad in La Liga and Slavia Praha in the Champions League, and are currently four points clear of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.
