UEFA has fined Real Madrid €15,000 and imposed a suspended partial stadium closure after a supporter was filmed performing a Nazi salute at the Santiago Bernabeu during the Champions League play-off against Benfica on February 25, 2026. The governing body’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) took action following the incident.

The sanction includes the closure of 500 adjacent seats in the lower south stand, though that measure is suspended for a one-year probationary period. The CEDB set out the fine and the conditional stadium closure in its written decision. Real Madrid said the individual was identified by security staff, expelled from the stadium and faces a lifetime ban, after the club urgently asked its Disciplinary Committee to open an immediate expulsion procedure.

"Real Madrid condemns this type of gesture and expression that incites violence and hatred in sports and society," the club stated.
