Real Madrid lose to Getafe as Mbappe misses; Vinicius and Gonzalo rated
Real Madrid were beaten 1-0 by Getafe at the Santiago Bernabeu as Kylian Mbappe sat out with a knee problem and the hosts struggled to find ideas in the final third. They conceded a remarkable first-half goal and, despite a much improved second half, failed to fashion enough clear chances to salvage the game.
Madrid controlled large spells early on with Vinicius Jr their main outlet, but veteran goalkeeper David Soria produced a pair of good stops and denied Arda Guler from a tight angle. Getafe made the most of their one real opening when the ball fell to Martin Satriano on the edge of the box and the Uruguayan volleyed in from distance.
The second half saw Madrid probe and press, with Toni Rudiger nodding just wide and Franco Mastantuono drawing saves from Soria before later missing two chances and being sent off. Alvaro Arbeloa used five outfield substitutions as Los Blancos searched for a way through, but in the end they were left to rue the opportunities that went begging.
