Real Madrid hit by Mastantuono ban as two defenders miss Celta trip
Real Madrid have been dealt a trio of disciplinary setbacks after their 1-0 loss to Getafe. The club’s appeal against Franco Mastantuono’s straight red — shown for arguing with the match official — was rejected, and the Disciplinary Committee confirmed a two-match ban for “attitudes of contempt or disregard towards the referees.” The committee also turned down the club’s request to overturn Aurélien Tchouaméni’s yellow card from the same game.
While that booking was upheld, it does not trigger an immediate suspension as it does not fall within a cycle of accumulated cautions. Defensive selection is also affected: Dean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras have each been suspended for one match after reaching the limit for yellow cards.
Those rulings leave coach Alvaro Arbeloa without two regular defenders for the trip to Celta Vigo.
