Real Madrid give Mbappe injury update before Benfica tie
Real Madrid issued an update on Kylian Mbappe ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League playoff first leg with Benfica in Lisbon. Mbappe was an unused substitute in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Real Sociedad, prompting questions over his availability for the tie. Boss Alvaro Arbeloa said the decision to leave Mbappe on the bench was precautionary because of “small discomfort” he has been managing.
Mbappe trained on Sunday and remains Real Madrid’s top scorer in La Liga with 23 goals, having struck in last weekend’s 2-0 win at Valencia. Vinicius Junior and Federico Valverde, who started against La Real, completed recovery work, while Jude Bellingham is out with a hamstring complaint and Eder Militao is injured.
Rodrygo and Raul Asencio remain suspended after their red cards against Benfica last month.
