'Red Rose' Is the Perfect Weekend Binge on Netflix
Red Rose is a British horror-thriller released in 2022 and created by Michael and Paul Clarkson. The single-season, eight-episode series was made for BBC Three and is now available on Netflix worldwide. The cast mixes familiar faces such as Adam Nagaitis and Rod Hallett with largely up-and-coming talent.
The story begins in Bolton, where a group of students celebrate finishing exams and Rochelle (Isis Hainsworth) makes the modern misstep of downloading an app without checking its source. That app, Red Rose, turns maliciously controlling, forcing cruel choices — for example, threatening to expose footage of Rochelle queuing for cereal at a food bank unless she kisses a friend’s boyfriend — and later presenting her with a chilling clip of a dead loved one babysitting twins.
Critics praised the series; it earned a nomination for Best Drama at the Broadcast Digital Awards and holds a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, even if it never became a major hit.
