Resident Evil Requiem Director Steps Back After Leon Shipping War Escalates

Koshi Nakanishi, director of Resident Evil Requiem, has been swamped with social media messages since the game’s launch. His alleged responses about Leon’s marital status drew criticism, and some of the interactions being shared online appear to have been faked.

Requiem reveals that Leon Kennedy married sometime after Resident Evil 6, but it does not name his partner. The game shows him putting on a wedding band in one of the final scenes, and the ring appears in concept art. Fans have debated whether Leon married Ada Wong or Claire Redfield, and many have messaged Nakanishi and posted purported replies.

Some messages seen seemed to tease the possibility of Ada rather than state it as fact, but others circulated those exchanges as confirmation. On his personal Instagram, Nakanishi thanked fans, said it’s hard to reply to everyone, and that their messages warmed his heart.
