Resident Evil Requiem Fans Keep Modding Leon’s Porsche
Leon Kennedy drives a custom Porsche in Resident Evil Requiem, a conspicuous piece of product placement. The shots of him behind the wheel and the dashboard as he speeds through the city feed into his cheesy, sexy aura, and that attention has made the car an obvious target for modders.
The Porsche appears only in some early segments, and Capcom has been protective of it: when players gain control of Leon after he parks the car, it cannot be shot. Many other vehicles can take gunfire, so the product placement deal may have stipulated that the car not be harmed.
Modders have been swapping Leon’s rides for humorous alternatives, from the Spongebob Squarepants Patty Wagon to a motor-powered wheelchair. Along with other mods — like turning an early-game monster into Shrek or making spiders look like Thomas the Tank Engine — those changes can strip much of Requiem’s seriousness, making it harder to be scared.
