Resident Evil Requiem ties together a lot of series lore. Leon S. Kennedy is investigating Raccoon City Syndrome, a lingering infection afflicting survivors of the city bombing, and Grace Ashcroft has been kidnapped by Dr. Victor Gideon over something called Elpis.

A second antagonist, Zeno, resembles the late Albert Wesker and wants Elpis for his own purposes. Leon and Grace eventually reach ARK, an Umbrella research facility beneath Raccoon City, where buried company secrets and Ozwell E. Spencer’s final work come to light, and Grace must choose whether to save or destroy Elpis.

In the bleak, “destroy Elpis” ending, ARK collapses as Grace escapes and Leon, weakened, stays behind. He tells Grace “At least I could save you,” but Zeno shoots him in the head and both he and Zeno fall into the abyss. Grace survives and Elpis is gone, and the game ends without a final boss.
