Ricky Martin’s Best Acting Role Remains in American Crime Story
Many viewers who tuned into this year’s Super Bowl halftime show saw Ricky Martin share the stage with Bad Bunny among other surprise guests. Martin’s Puerto Rican heritage and long career in music make his appearance feel especially fitting, and he has also built a modest acting résumé alongside his musical work.
His most notable screen turn remains Season 2 of American Crime Story, subtitled The Assassination of Gianni Versace. Developed by Ryan Murphy to examine a controversial crime each season, the series follows Versace’s death and the events that led up to it; Martin plays Versace’s partner, Antonio D’Amico, opposite Édgar Ramírez as Versace.
Rotten Tomatoes currently lists the series at 84%. From the opening episode, "The Man Who Would Be Vogue," Martin delivers a quietly devastating performance. Upon discovering Versace’s body, D’Amico screams for help and spends the rest of the episode covered in blood with a thousand-yard stare, conveying heartbreak without sensationalism.
