RoboCop shook up science fiction with its blend of satire and hyper-violence. The story of police officer Alex Murphy being killed in the line of duty and resurrected as a cyborg probed themes of identity, hyper-capitalism and an early, gritty take on a superhero origin.

RoboCop: The Series arrived in 1994 after RoboCop 3 faltered and Orion Pictures went bankrupt, with the film rights licensed to Canadian company Skyvision Entertainment. Despite a new platform, the show lasted only a single season, largely because production costs ran upwards of $1 million per episode; it is now available to stream on Tubi.

The series famously altered many elements of the films: Anne Lewis became Detective Lisa Madigan (Yvette Nipar), OCP’s chairman was portrayed as more benevolent, and Murphy used non-lethal methods to apprehend criminals — a clear shift toward younger viewers.
