Rodrygo ruled out for season with ACL and meniscus rupture
Real Madrid forward Rodrygo has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a rupture of the external meniscus in his right leg, effectively ending his domestic season and ruling him out of the upcoming World Cup. Scans after the La Liga loss to Getafe confirmed the injury.
"After the tests carried out today on our player Rodrygo by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a rupture of the external meniscus of the right leg," the club said. The damage occurred 11 minutes after he entered the match against Getafe: his knee appeared to buckle and catch in the turf following a feint on the wing.
Rodrygo had only just returned from nearly a month sidelined with tendonitis, was introduced in the 54th minute to provide an attacking spark, and managed to finish the game despite visible signs of pain before undergoing a full medical assessment.
