Rodrygo sidelined by hamstring injury after Champions League ban
Rodrygo has sustained a hamstring injury to his right leg and will be sidelined for around 10 days. He will miss games against Valencia and Real Sociedad and could return against Osasuna on February 21. The winger had been sent off in Real Madrid's 4-2 defeat to Benfica and UEFA have handed him a two-match ban, ruling him out of both legs of the Champions League knockout play-off round for using 'insulting and abusive language' towards the match officials.
Rodrygo apologised on social media: 'Yesterday I got carried away in the moment when complaining about wasted time. It’s not my way of doing things. I had never been sent off playing with Real Madrid and I am aware of the consequences. I apologise to the fans, the club, my team-mates, and the coach.
We will continue united and fighting for this badge and for this Champions League!' Real face deeper availability issues. Raul Asencio is suspended after collecting two yellow cards against Benfica, while Jude Bellingham has a hamstring tear.
