Rollin' Rascal demo channels 3D Sonic speed with ranked multiplayer races
A demo for Rollin' Rascal, updated for the current Steam Next Fest, leans heavily on the feel of early 3D Sonic outings. That influence is unsurprising: lead developer Gabriel Gonzales previously worked on Sonic GT, and the game's design carries that legacy. Levels are sprawling and stuffed with ramps, slides, and grind rails, using Sonic Adventure-esque momentum physics.
Playable characters Rascal and QT can run super fast, jump and air dash, curl into a ball and bounce, and dive forward while preserving momentum, making loops and high-speed traversal feel satisfying. The demo also shows an extensive suite of online modes, including ranked multiplayer.
Races are lengthy and include Mario Kart-y item boxes, but online population seemed thin—my lone race was just me against one other player. It's not perfect: the camera sometimes clips through the ground, there are little bugs, and some levels can feel like they're missing enemies or more robust objectives.
