Ronny Chieng Jokes About Trump ‘DoorDash-ing’ Maduro After New York Arraignment
Ronny Chieng, host of The Daily Show, quipped on Tuesday about Donald Trump ‘‘DoorDash-ing’ Nicolás Maduro to Brooklyn after the Venezuelan president and his wife appeared in a New York court.
Maduro and his wife, Cilia, pleaded not guilty to federal charges of narco-terrorism and conspiring to import cocaine, the roundup noted. Chieng said Maduro "will face justice in the best legal system in the world that we illegally kidnapped him to," and added, "The world is still in shock over Donald Trump’s surprise DoorDash-ing of Nicolás Maduro to Brooklyn, and he didn’t even tip."
Chieng also reacted to Cilia Maduro being arraigned alongside her husband: "His wife was trafficking cocaine with him? I guess in other countries, first ladies have actual responsibilities," he said, then made further jokes about the couple and about marriage during the segment.
The report did not detail next steps in the legal proceedings; Chieng's remarks were part of his late-night commentary following the defendants' appearance in court.
