RSF drone attack kills 24 fleeing families in central Sudan
A drone strike by the Rapid Support Forces hit a vehicle carrying displaced families near the city of Er Rahad in North Kordofan, killing at least 24 people, including eight children and two infants, the Sudan Doctors Network said. The vehicle had been transporting people who fled fighting in the Dubeiker area.
Several others were wounded and taken for treatment in Er Rahad, which suffers severe shortages of medical supplies. The doctors’ group called the attack a “flagrant violation of international humanitarian law [which] amounts to a full-fledged war crime” and urged the international community and rights organisations to “take immediate action to protect civilians and hold the RSF leadership directly accountable for these violations”.
There was no immediate comment from the RSF. The paramilitary group has been at war with the Sudanese military for about three years, after a power struggle in April 2023 ignited fighting across the country that has left tens of thousands dead and millions displaced.
