RuneScape: Dragonwilds’ Dowdun Reach expansion brings Elden Ring–style castle, skill cap to 99
Jagex plans to release Dowdun Reach, the second major expansion for RuneScape: Dragonwilds, at the end of March 2026, Polygon reported after catching up with the studio. Subtitled “Madness of Zamorak,” it’s the first Dragonwilds content drop that won’t feature a dragon as the main boss.
At a Jagex press event the team described Dowdun Reach as “labyrinthian,” with a much denser, vertically focused region centered on a huge castle. The expansion will favor more linear paths and enemies in your way rather than the open-world style used so far, and was likened to Elden Ring’s Stormveil Castle.
Jagex said the castle is a “fortified stronghold with battlements, armories, and inner chambers” and will be the source of mithril-tier gear and weapons. New enemies include Black Knights throughout the area and Blue Dragons encountered as you go deeper. Polygon also reported that Jagex will raise every skill’s cap from 50 to 99.
In a chat with Dragonwilds creative director Rick Turek and executive producer Jesse America, Turek said skills had been capped at 50 because developers had “packed them with as much content” as they thought they could, and increasing to 99 will add new skills, passives, and recipes.
