RuneScape monthly membership now $14.99, matches World of Warcraft price
Jagex has increased RuneScape membership prices effective immediately. The monthly subscription rises from $13.99 to $14.99, while the annual membership jumps from $99.48 to $131.88. Six-month memberships are being discontinued under the new scheme, forcing players with grandfathered six-month plans to switch to monthly subscriptions to retain a reduced rate, and tradable in-game Bonds have also become more expensive.
Jagex said the changes will help support an "ambitious" development roadmap, from enhancing core systems to improving supporting services and ensuring continued delivery of updates players value most. The new pricing notably reduces the relative value of the annual plan.
Under the previous rates the $99.48 annual membership was 40.7% cheaper than paying monthly for a year; at the new prices the $131.88 annual option now saves only 26.7% compared with 12 months of the increased monthly rate.
