Russell Crowe remains one of the most notable actors working in Hollywood, with three consecutive Academy Award nominations for The Insider, Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind. He hasn’t been nominated for a performance in over 20 years, though many fans felt he deserved a nod for his recent WWII courtroom drama Nuremberg.

Crowe is currently filming a Highlander reboot with Henry Cavill, directed by Chad Stahelski, and he recently appeared in Thor: Love and Thunder and Kraven the Hunter. Sleeping Dogs, a 2024 crime thriller, casts Crowe as an ex-homicide detective with memory loss who is forced to solve a brutal murder and ends up uncovering chilling secrets from his forgotten past.

Adam Cooper and Bill Collage wrote the script, with Cooper directing; the film was released on April 25, 2024 and runs 110 minutes. Critical response was mixed: Sleeping Dogs holds a 43% score on Rotten Tomatoes but earned an 80% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter, and it grossed roughly $2 million worldwide.
