Facepunch announced that from March Rust server owners will be able to opt in to only allow connections from players who have Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 enabled, Facepunch COO Alistair McFarlane said on X.

The studio framed the change as a measure to keep up with cheat makers; McFarlane has previously said the game's "cheat community" routinely harasses and threatens the developers when it is not cheating.

McFarlane noted the requirement will be familiar to players of recent games such as Highguard and Battlefield 6, which have also enforced Secure Boot and Trusted Platform Module checks.

Server owners will be able to opt in starting in March, and McFarlane said Facepunch will review the metrics and expects to move toward making the requirement mandatory across all servers.

The change begins as an opt-in measure in March; the studio says its review of those metrics will determine whether and when the Secure Boot and TPM checks become mandatory.
