Ryan Gosling returned to Saturday Night Live on March 7 and opened with a lengthy monologue that featured a surprise appearance by Harry Styles. The host mixed jokes about New York’s early‑March weather with a flustered onstage encounter after spotting Styles in the audience.

Gosling asked, "What are you doing here, man?" and Styles replied, "Well, I'm hosting next week, and it's been awhile, so I just wanted to watch. Get a feel for it." Gosling then mistakenly called his new movie Project Harry Styles instead of Project Hail Mary.

A globe descended beside him as he began a sweeping speech — "Look at this pale blue dot" — before the camera shifted full focus to Styles and Gosling quipped, "I'm sorry. Why are we on Harry Styles?" He scrapped a planned big musical number with alien‑face backup dancers and instead sang a karaoke version of Styles' "Sign of the Times," which he says is in Project Hail Mary.
