Ryan Gosling's 'Project Hail Mary' premieres in NYC amid buzz
The world premiere of "Project Hail Mary" at Lincoln Center on Manhattan’s Upper West Side played well with the crowd despite a bone-chilling 30 degrees in New York versus a blistering 85 in Los Angeles. The 156-minute film drew a strong reaction, but the event itself felt disjointed: the red carpet was held on the Josie Robertson Plaza a good distance from the theater, and the stars' trek delayed the start by an hour.
Back in Los Angeles, a less starry press screening was held at IMAX’s Playa Vista headquarters. Showrunner Bill Lawrence attended and even shared instructions on how to score snacks inside the office complex after treats were not part of the show; some audience members went searching but most turned back when they ran into an "Employees Only" sign blocking a breakroom.
Former "SNL" star Taran Killam and THR’s Scott Feinberg were also spotted. The film appears on track for a blockbuster opening weekend, with tracking in the $70–$78 million range and a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
