Saleh hired by Titans revives feud with Jaguars coach Liam Coen
Cbssports reported the Tennessee Titans agreed to terms with former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh to be their new head coach, a move that renews a rivalry with Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen.
The two coaches drew headlines earlier this season after Saleh suggested Coen and his staff had a "legally ... a really advanced signal-stealing-type system," a comment Coen downplayed as the result of hard work to find "indicators by your formation, motion, shift, pre-snap." Peter Schrager of ESPN reported the Jaguars had narrowed their coaching search last year to Coen and Saleh, and that Saleh was "devastated" not to get the job. Following a Jaguars upset of the 49ers, cameras captured a heated on-field exchange in which Coen told Saleh, "Keep my name out of your mouth. Keep my name out of your f---ing mouth," and Saleh responded, "I was trying to compliment your ass. I will f--- your world up. You don't wanna f--- with me. I will f---ing end your f--ing life."
Saleh later said he "probably used the wrong choice of words," via Fox Sports. With Saleh now in Tennessee, the coaches will meet twice a year in the AFC South; Titans fans hope his intensity will help a franchise that went 6-28 over the last two seasons.
