Sali Hughes says a lavish bubble bath can help lift the cold, depressing mood of January and recommends affordable high-street bath products that give a luxury feel without spender’s remorse. She highlights Badedas Bath Gelee (£14.69 for 750ml) for producing a huge amount of bubble and a room-filling botanical aroma that is momentarily "ouch-y" in a gratifying way, noting she keeps a stock of it.

For sensitive skin, Hughes recommends M&S’s 2-in-1 Shower Cream & Bath Milk from the Skinkind range (£7.50 for 400ml), which is dermatologically tested, suitable for sensitive skin, and offers a soft soak with moderately high bubbles and low fragrance — she says it “smells like milky baby’s scalp to me, but you may not get a whiff of anything.” She also points to Imperial Leather’s Cherry Blossom & Almond Oil Ultimate Moisture Bath Soak (about £3 for 450ml, or less on offer) as astonishing value millilitre for millilitre, although she says she “wouldn’t quite agree with the ‘ultimate moisture’ tag.” Hughes praises its marzipan and floral fragrance against the brand’s retro scent and says it foams enough to craft a bubble beard that holds.

Finally, Hughes recommends Superdrug’s Vitamin E and Almond Moisturising Shower and Bath Cream (£3.89 for 500ml) for generous, indulgent use: it foams well without feeling childish and has a creamy, clean fragrance she calls an unfailing crowd pleaser.
