Samsung confirms DRAM price rise of 'over 100%' for customers
Samsung Electronics has confirmed a DRAM price increase of "over 100%" for its customers in the first quarter of this year. That follows a 70% rise in January, suggesting the RAMpocalypse may get worse before it improves.
Samsung is one of the big three DRAM manufacturers, sitting behind SK Hynix, which has also informed customers of major price increases in recent weeks. Memory supply contracts are shifting from annual to quarterly terms, and manufacturers are even considering monthly contracts as AI server expansion outpaces supply.
The squeeze on memory will reach consumers. What hits Samsung's customers will ripple to end buyers, making it a poor time to shop for RAM modules; GPU prices are already high and NAND-dependent SSDs have been creeping up. How far prices can rise remains unclear, but $400+ 32 GB RAM kits might be only the beginning.
