ZDNET's Kerry Wan tried the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold in a private showroom at CES and said the device felt like the future of foldables.

The TriFold unfolds to a wider 10-inch AMOLED with a 4:3 aspect ratio that Wan found made split-screen multitasking, browsing and video viewing feel more intentional. She compared the experience to the early Galaxy Fold but said the TriFold felt sturdy and thoughtfully put together, without the creaks or mysterious internal sounds of earlier models.

Wan noted trade-offs from her brief demo: the TriFold is effectively a two‑handed device, introduces twice the display creases and twice as many fingerprint smudges to manage, and lacks a true stylus input system. As a daily Z Fold 7 user, she said the larger display is the TriFold’s biggest selling point and made her existing foldable feel outdated.

The foldable had not officially launched in the US while customers in South Korea had units weeks earlier. Wan wrote that the TriFold represents a first true phone‑tablet hybrid capable of replacing both devices without much compromise, and, she added, if the sentiment in the room was any indication, the conversation around foldables may have moved past the "why" and into a new phase of mobile productivity.
