Samsung prepares PCIe 6.0 SSDs as AI drives push demand
ZDNet Korea says Samsung is "embarking on full-scale preparations" for PCIe 6.0 SSDs, placing initial orders for R&D and expecting mass production orders in the second half of the year.
That comes as current-generation SSD prices climb and demand—fueled by AI—remains strong, a trend memory and storage makers have welcomed. Micron observed nearly two years ago that AI is "making memory sexy again", and storage appears to be following suit.
This won’t be the first PCIe 6.0 drive: Micron launched one last July aimed at AI servers. Consumers hoping for broader availability will be watching whether datacentres move to Gen 6 and free up Gen 4 and 5 drives for gaming and everyday use.
