Sarah Chalke Looks Back on 'Roseanne' Casting
Sarah Chalke is best known for her role as Dr. Elliot Reid on Scrubs, but she first entered the spotlight during the back half of ABC's Roseanne. She joined the cast in 1993 for Season 6, playing Becky Conner in over 70 episodes after replacing Lecy Goranson, and remained with the show until it concluded in 1997 with Season 9.
Speaking with Jesse Tyler Ferguson on the Dinner's On Me podcast, Chalke said she was “so naive” when she took the part, and that naivety helped her walk into the audition room and hold a conversation with the Roseanne crew: "I think the only reason that I was able to actually even go and do the job was because I was so naive, and I didn't actually get it...
I think I just was pretty young and naive." She acknowledged that fans had strong opinions about Goranson's original Becky, admitting, "She was great," and calling Roseanne one of her first big breaks. Four years after Roseanne ended, Chalke began her run as Elliot Reed and spent the next decade acting alongside Zach Braff and Donald Faison.
