Sarah Michelle Gellar Confirms Hulu's 'Buffy' Reboot Is Canceled
Sarah Michelle Gellar announced on Instagram that Hulu has decided not to move forward with Buffy: New Sunnydale. She wrote that she was saddened to share the news and wanted fans to hear it from her.
Gellar thanked director Chloé Zhao for the opportunity to return to Buffy, saying Zhao reminded her how much she loves the character and what she means to fans. The project had been described as a continuation rather than a reboot or sequel, set to revisit the heroine after more than 20 years.
Buffy remains Gellar’s most iconic role: she spent seven seasons fighting vampires and demons while trying to live a normal life, and her work helped pave the way for shows such as Supernatural, True Blood and The Umbrella Academy. She closed her post on a lighter note, adding, "if the apocalypse actually comes...you can still beep me."
