SBI Holdings says it owns 9% of Ripple, not $10 billion in XRP
SBI Holdings chairman Yoshitaka Kitao dismissed claims the firm directly held $10 billion in XRP, clarifying that the company’s exposure is an equity stake in Ripple Labs rather than token holdings. Kitao said SBI owns about a 9% stake in Ripple. In November 2025 Ripple’s valuation rose to $40 billion after a $500 million funding round led by funds managed by affiliates of Fortress Investment Group and affiliates of Citadel Securities.
Based on that valuation, a 9% stake would be worth roughly $3.6 billion on paper, and its value would rise proportionally if Ripple’s valuation increased. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has projected that a crypto firm will eventually exceed $1 trillion and said Ripple has the opportunity to be that company, describing XRP as the company’s 'north star' and stressing that product and service development aims to support the XRP ecosystem.
XRP has fallen 7.8% over the past 24 hours and traded at $1.47 at the time of writing.
