The Schedule and Planning Interface for Exploration (SPIFe) team is one of three teams within the Human-Computer Interaction Group at NASA Ames Research Center. The team designs, develops, and deploys software tools to meet the operational challenges of human and robotic space missions.

With over a decade of experience, SPIFe has supported the International Space Station, LADEE, LCROSS, Mars Phoenix Lander, MSL Curiosity, Mars 2020 Perseverance and numerous spaceflight analogs, while collaborating across NASA Ames divisions and with Johnson Space Center and Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Playbook is the team’s current platform for next-generation planning, scheduling, and execution tools. Its timeline scheduling models activities, resources, and constraints and supports violation checking and resolution. Execution capabilities include procedure integration, activity status tracking, and multimedia communication.
