Scream 7's ending and how it sets up Scream 8
Scream 7 may be the worst-reviewed entry in the series, but a strong opening at the box office has all but assured a Scream 8. The film arrived after a three-year gap prompted by unforeseen circumstances and corporate meddling, and Paramount’s current consolidation plans are mentioned as part of that turbulence.
Kevin Williamson and Neve Campbell reportedly sketched the beginnings of an idea for a follow-up while making Scream 7, though past sequels often diverged from their original blueprints. The movie reshuffles the franchise’s cast and focus. The “core four” introduced in the recent reboot now only partly returns: Mindy and Chad appear, while Sam and Tara are absent after off-screen departures.
Sidney Prescott once again becomes the central figure, with other returning faces reduced to smaller or cameo roles, and the film leans heavily on Sidney’s personal history to propel the plot. Scream 7 leans into deepfakes and nostalgia for scares.
