'Scream' Directors Felt Greater Pressure on 'Ready or Not 2'

Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, who directed 2022's Scream and Scream VI as well as the 2019 slasher Ready or Not, say making the sequel Ready or Not 2: Here I Come brought unexpected pressure. In the original, Samara Weaving's Grace fights for her life against a wealthy family's sick wedding-night game; the follow-up ramps up the stakes with more families hunting Grace and the addition of her estranged sister, Faith.

The duo found the sequel felt more personal than working on an established franchise. Bettinelli-Olpin said, "We love the first movie. It's so special to us." Gillett added the "excitement and pressure" came from asking whether they could "challenge the material," noting, "Wildly, wildly personal and the opportunity to make a sequel came with a lot of excitement and pressure that we maybe didn't feel in the same way with Scream.
