The search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of "Today" anchor Savannah Guthrie, grew more urgent as it entered its fourth day, officials said. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos warned, "Time is not on our side," and authorities pleaded for help from the public.

Authorities said Ms. Guthrie was taken from her home near Tucson sometime between 9:45 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday morning. No suspects or motive have been identified, and officials said there was "no credible information" that she was specifically targeted; the sheriff's office said it had received a copy of a purported ransom note and was working with the F.B.I.

to validate it. Officials warned it was dangerous for her to be without her daily medication and noted she has limited mobility. Police said they found concerning evidence at Ms. Guthrie's home, including red splatters on the front doorstep, and that DNA samples taken there were confirmed to belong to her.
