Search Party lands on Netflix Feb. 5 — a five-season, underrated thriller to binge
Search Party, the five-season thriller series that originally ran from 2016 to 2022, will be added to Netflix on Feb. 5, 2026, offering a ready-made binge for viewers looking for something strange and surprising. The show aired on TBS for Seasons 1 and 2 before moving to HBO Max for Seasons 3–5, and it totals five seasons and 50 episodes, according to the report.
Search Party begins with Dory Sief (Alia Skawkat) searching for a missing classmate, Chantal Witherbottom (Clare McNulty), but the series evolves each season so that seasons 2 through 5 scarcely resemble the initial premise. Its tone shifts from light-hearted to bleak and scary, blending comedy and horror while exploring themes such as death, trauma, fame, spirituality and growing up.
The series also centers on vivid supporting characters: friends Elliot Goss (John Early) and Portia Davenport (Meredith Hagner) provide much of the show’s humor, while Dory’s boyfriend Drew Gardner (John Reynolds) remains important across seasons. Despite dubious choices by the characters, the show frames their arcs as a kind of coming-of-age story about wanting love and happiness.
MovieWeb compares Search Party’s appeal to other popular thrillers like You but says it offers more relatable main characters, and recommends the series as a compelling long binge that surprises viewers the more it progresses. Next up: Seasons 1–5 arrive on Netflix on Feb.
