Secret Level emerges as one of Prime Video's best sci‑fi series
Tim Miller, creator of Love, Death + Robots, moved to Prime Video to make Secret Level, a video-game-focused anthology that adapts and creates original stories from popular games. The 15-episode series aimed to set a new benchmark for adaptations and was released December 10, 2024 on Amazon Prime Video.
Episodes run the gamut from faithful translations — Sisu, Warhammer 40,000, and Dungeons & Dragons/Baldur's Gate were singled out as strong adaptations — to wildly inventive takes. Pac-Man, for example, becomes an interdimensional prisoner trying to escape a vast maze while avoiding ghosts, led astray by a Destiny-esque mysterious entity and animated in a grimdark, 40k style.
Some stories put viewers in the shoes of game protagonists; others expand the worlds they borrow from. "The Outer Worlds: The Company We Keep" focuses on a random NPC exploited by the corporations that run the galaxy, broadening the game's worldbuilding.
