Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he does not expect the chamber to take up a market-structure bill for digital assets before April. He said the Senate will prioritize a vote on the SAVE America Act, which would require voters to provide proof of U.S. citizenship in person to register, and that lawmakers will address the crypto market-structure measure and other bipartisan bills after that vote.

Thune said he hoped the bill would come out of the Banking Committee soon but probably not before April. That view differs from Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno, who in February said he hoped the measure would pass Congress by April; the Senate Agriculture Committee has advanced its version, while the Banking Committee postponed a January markup needed to combine the legislation before a floor vote.

Separately, the Senate voted to add an amendment to the 21st Century Road to Housing Act that would bar the Federal Reserve from issuing a central bank digital currency until December 2030 if the provision becomes law.
