Sergio Aguero rejects fears Guardiola exit will mirror United decline
Sergio Aguero has dismissed suggestions Pep Guardiola's eventual departure could trigger a downturn similar to Manchester United's after Sir Alex Ferguson retired. There is an expectation Guardiola could step down at the end of this season after 10 years as City coach, but he has refused to comment, saying he does not know what the future holds.
Aguero, who won five Premier League titles in his decade at City and left for Barcelona in 2021 before retiring due to a heart condition, said: "Pep has repeatedly stated in recent months that he has one more year on his contract, so there's no point in speculating now about whether or not he'll leave at the end of the season." City's all-time top scorer with 260 goals in 390 games, Aguero added: "It's always the case that when such a successful manager leaves, there's some kind of reshuffling.
But I have a feeling that City will know how to replace him very well when the time comes.
