Benjamin Sesko said he believed in himself after snatching a vital victory for Manchester United at Everton. His strike decided a stodgy encounter at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and sent United three points clear of Chelsea and Liverpool in the race to finish in the Premier League's top four.

The Slovenian has proved effective whether starting or coming off the bench. He scored three goals in two games while Darren Fletcher was caretaker, starting the league game against Burnley and the FA Cup third round defeat by Brighton, and he has found the net in three of his five cameo appearances since Michael Carrick took over.

The £74m striker's goals against Fulham, West Ham and Everton earned United a total of five points as they push for Champions League qualification. Sesko underlined his acceptance of the substitute role: "For me, it's important whenever I come on to try and help the team.
