Seven shock Premier League relegations as Tottenham face a fight to survive
Sunday's north London derby confirmed what many feared as Tottenham succumbed to Arsenal: Spurs are in a relegation battle. Igor Tudor was brought in to spark a revival after replacing Thomas Frank, but a 4-1 defeat left the team just four points above the drop zone with 11 matches to play.
Injuries and suspensions have limited the squad, and while returns are expected to help, Tottenham have yet to find consistent form as rivals pick up points. Few expected this slide. After finishing 17th last season, most predicted Spurs would be competing for European qualification and were widely regarded as 'too good to go down'.
Form, however, can fall below any team's standard, and Tudor now plots an escape as a reminder of how quickly fortunes can change. There are precedents. Norwich, who finished third in the Premier League’s inaugural season, collapsed in 1994-95 after sitting seventh at New Year and ended up 20th following the sales of Chris Sutton and Mark Robins and an injury to Bryan Gunn.
