Eagle Eye (2008), starring Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan and directed by D.J. Caruso, is now streaming for free in the United States on Pluto TV this month. LaBeouf plays the twin of a deceased soldier who becomes entangled in a government conspiracy, guided only by a disembodied voice that urges him to team up with Monaghan's character as they flee operatives on their trail.

The film centres on mass surveillance and artificial intelligence, themes that the piece notes are more topical now than when Eagle Eye was released. Caruso, who had worked with LaBeouf on Disturbia, leaned into a North by Northwest playbook for this techno-thriller.

Despite solid box-office returns—Eagle Eye grossed a hair under $180 million worldwide against a reported $80 million budget—the reviews were largely negative.
