Shoes that are popular and going out of style now: Spring 2026
This spring, stylists expect footwear with fun accents and lower soles to take center stage, while sky-high heels and dressy hybrid sneakers fall out of favor. Patrick Kenger said the chunky, casual mule is evolving into a sleeker loafer mule: slimmer silhouettes in leather or suede that keep the easy slip-on feel but add a closed-toe, classic loafer top to elevate casual outfits.
All three stylists noted a turn toward shoes that show personality — from embellishments and color blocking to bold prints and adventurous materials. Natalie Tincher pointed to extra straps and prints like zebra or leopard, and Kenger mentioned textured finishes such as snakeskin on men’s loafers.
Vanessa Powell added that vintage-style, boho clogs with wooden or cork soles in earthy tones are resurfacing. Low-profile sneakers remain popular for their cleaner, more versatile look, while hybrid dress sneakers are losing traction as people choose clearer casual or formal shoes.
