Shōgun Season 2 to start filming January 2026 with Lady Ochiba central
Collider reports FX's Shōgun is entering production on Season 2: filming is scheduled to begin in January 2026 in Vancouver, and the new season is set 10 years after the events of Season 1.
Co-creator Rachel Kondo told TVInsider that Lady Ochiba (Fumi Nikaido) will be a major character in Part 2; Ochiba was a childhood friend of Lady Mariko (Anna Sawai) and later became the mother of the late Taikō's only heir, Yaechiyo. Emmy-winner Hiroyuki Sanada will return as Lord Yoshii Toranaga and has been promoted to executive producer after serving as a producer on Season 1, while Cosmo Jarvis will reprise John Blackthorne and serve as a co-executive producer. The show first entered early development for Seasons 2 and 3 close to two years ago after the success of Season 1.
Co-creator and executive producer Justin Marks described Season 2 as "an experiment in subverting expectations," saying the Tokugawa regime will still be in power but the balance of power is unstable. Marks explained the ten-year jump as a way to "focus more attention on the grieving characters" rather than immediately continuing Season 1, and said the season will contain "unpredictable surprises," asking, "How can we surprise the audience from the very first episode?" Shōgun has no return date yet and a premiere "shouldn't be expected anytime soon," with further cast updates expected in due time.
