Sims 4 Marketplace angers fans, draws Creation Club comparisons
EA unveiled The Sims 4 Marketplace to sell what are essentially paid mods and custom content, calling it "an intentional evolution of a multi-year strategy to support custom content creators" and introducing a new real-money currency, Moola. As a long-time Simmer I was shocked after spending over $1,500 on DLC; I feel sprucing up the base game should come via free community mods or official EA updates.
Plenty of other players seem to agree, especially given how regularly expansion packs and paid DLC already arrive. Online reaction has been largely negative, with many comparing the Marketplace to Bethesda’s Creation Club. Comments include: "Soooo it's the Bethesda creation club," "This is hilarious, they just copied Bethesda," and "EA is basically reheating Bethesda's nachos.
Remember the Creation Club?" Players also call the Marketplace "basically microtransactions," likening it to the old Sims 3 Store but with nothing free.
