Sims 4 players will soon be able to discover, purchase, and play new content through an in-game Sims 4 Marketplace. An accompanying Maker Program will let approved creators publish their work directly to the Marketplace and earn money for their creations. The Marketplace is fully integrated into The Sims 4 and uses a new virtual currency called Moola to buy Maker Packs — curated collections of Create a Sim and/or Build/Buy items created by a Maker.

Creators set their own prices and receive 30% of Maker Pack sales; for example, a 400 Moola Snazzy Living Room pack would earn the creator $1.20. Standard expansions, Game Packs, and Stuff Packs will continue to be sold via regular channels for real money, and creators can still offer work for free elsewhere, though content available elsewhere cannot be sold through the Marketplace.

The setup has drawn comparisons to Bethesda’s Creation Club and arrives amid a complicated history around paid mods and EA’s enforcement of its policies.
