Kotaku reports that WickedWhims, a fan-made mod for The Sims 4 led by modder Turbodriver, remains widely used. The mod, which adds fully animated and interactive sex along with expanded relationships, menstrual cycles and birth control, has over 16,000 paid supporters on Patreon, and Turbodriver told German site Taz via Google Translate that his server is pinged an average of 400,000 times per day; those pings occur whenever someone starts the game with the mod installed.

WickedWhims enables detailed intimate interactions, including what the site says are more than 10,000 animations from various creators, visible nudity such as pubic hair and sweat, and fantasies like voyeurism. Turbodriver told Taz that the mod also includes mechanics for sexually transmitted disease, fertility variation across cycles, and birth control, and he said he does not intend the mod to be educational even though programming it required research into fertility.

The wider context matters: EA has said The Sims 4 has accrued more than 80 million players worldwide, a statistic it shared with Variety during an interview in September 2024, but not all those players boot the game every day and the daily ping count can include repeated sessions by the same person.
