Sinners tops 98th Academy Awards nominations with 16; One Battle After Another has 13
The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were announced Thursday morning, Jan. 22, 2026, with Sinners leading the field with a record-breaking 16 nominations and One Battle After Another receiving 13 nods.
Sinners earned nominations including best picture, best director for Ryan Coogler and best actor for Michael B. Jordan. One Battle After Another also received best picture and best director nominations for Paul Thomas Anderson, and a best actor nomination for Leonardo DiCaprio.
Timothée Chalamet was nominated for best actor for Marty Supreme; the Times noted that a win would make him one of the youngest best actor winners after Adrien Brody’s 2003 win for The Pianist. Sentimental Value secured four main-cast acting nominations: Renate Reinsve for best actress, Stellan Skarsgard for best supporting actor, and both Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for best supporting actress.
Other notable nominees included directors Josh Safdie, Joachim Trier and Chloé Zhao; lead acting nods for Ethan Hawke and Wagner Moura; supporting nominations for Benicio Del Toro, Jacob Elordi, Delroy Lindo, Sean Penn and Wunmi Mosaku; and nominations across screenplay, casting, editing, production design, visual effects and other technical categories.
The ceremony will air on March 15 and Conan O’Brien will return as host. The Times published the full list of nominees alongside the announcement.
