Slay the Spire 2 developer opposes microtransactions despite player interest
Slay the Spire 2 has launched in early access, and developer Mega Crit says players can expect to pay once rather than repeatedly. "We're microtransaction haters," co-founder Casey Yano told Destructoid recently.
Yano acknowledged that many fans would be willing to spend on cosmetic items. "A lot of our players threaten to buy all and any cosmetics we may ever release," he said.
The studio’s stance matches the game’s modest price. Despite being the long-awaited sequel to a hugely popular title, Slay the Spire 2 is £19.99/$24.99.
Its early access debut also performed strongly. The game quickly rose to the top of the Steam charts, becoming the platform’s #1 seller and outpacing new releases Marathon and Resident Evil Requiem, even amid more competition than the original faced.
