Elites in Slay the Spire 2 are optional miniboss encounters that return from the original game: tougher enemies that promise better rewards such as Relics, more money, and upgraded card drops. Because the map has branching paths, players can see and choose Elite fights rather than running into them unexpectedly.

I initially sought out as many Elites as possible, but found the aggressive approach devastating to my runs. Those fights are punishing in practice. Even a light attack from some Elites can deal massive damage, stripping health and items and leaving subsequent encounters feeling like a standoff where losing a single hit point matters.

By the time the act boss arrives, many runs feel effectively over. The frustration comes from the payoff. Relics are the main draw and a few—like the one that upgrades every Attack and Skill—can be game‑changing, but most feel underwhelming early on: bonus strength that can’t be leveraged yet, or a block boost when enemies don’t attack on the first turn.
