Slay the Spire 2 gets over 9,000 negative Steam reviews after beta card nerf
Mega Crit pushed its "first BIG post-launch patch" to the game's opt-in beta branch, giving players a chance to test changes before they reach the main branch. The beta, described as a "huge balance pass," retuned enemies, artifacts, and the costs and effects of a number of cards—and in less than a day it drew more than 9,000 negative Steam reviews, even though the changes haven't gone live on the main branch.
Much of the anger centers on the Silent's Prepared card. Prepared used to be a zero-cost skill that discarded one card and drew a replacement; version 0.100.0 renames it Prepare, makes it cost one energy, and changes it to discard two cards to grant two energy next turn.
Players also point to other nerfs and enemy buffs, such as a new Doormaker ability, and say the sequel is increasing dangers while reducing options to escape them. Language and platform restrictions may have amplified the backlash. Recent review activity shows users using Simplified Chinese contributed a large share of negative reviews.
